Getting Started with AI Piano FingeringA step-by-step tutorial on how to use PineappleMusicLab to upload piano sheet music, generate AI-powered fingering suggestions, edit and customize them, and export your annotated score.Steps

Sign up or sign in: click "Get Started for Free!" on the home page or "Log In" in the navigation bar to create a new account or sign in to your existing account.

Go to your workspace: once signed in, click "Get Started for Free!" again on the home page or "My Projects" in the navigation bar to open your workspace.

Upload your sheet music: click "+ Create New Project" and select a PDF or MusicXML (.xml, .musicxml, .mxl) piano sheet music file from your computer. Maximum file size is 10 MB.

AI generates fingerings: the AI automatically analyzes your sheet music and generates fingering suggestions in seconds. Main fingerings are shown in bold, with lighter alternative suggestions.

Enter edit mode and change main fingerings: tap the pencil pill in the right-edge side-toggle column to enter edit mode, then click and drag any main fingering number up or down to change it. Fingering numbers range from 1 (thumb) to 5 (pinky).

Swap alternative fingerings: still in edit mode, quick-click a lighter-colored alternative fingering to swap an entire connected group with its main, or long-press to swap only that individual note.

Use the toolbar and side toggles: use the top toolbar (Font Size on PDF projects, Print on MusicXML projects, Download for PDF/MusicXML output) and the right-edge side toggles (Alternate fingerings, plus Sharps & Flats and Pitch on PDF projects) to customise your view. When you are in edit mode the toolbar swaps to Reset, Undo, and Done — Done auto-saves and exits.

Manage your projects: visit My Projects to open, rename, delete, or create new projects at any time.

Frequently asked questionsWhat do piano fingering numbers mean?Piano fingering uses numbers 1 to 5 for each hand: 1 = thumb, 2 = index finger, 3 = middle finger, 4 = ring finger, 5 = pinky. These numbers appear above the staff (right hand) or below the staff (left hand) next to the notes on the score.How many projects can I have on the free plan?The free plan allows up to 3 projects with limited generation (18 measures for MusicXML, 3 systems for PDF). To generate full-length scores and unlimited projects, subscribe to Starter or Pro.Can I print or export my annotated sheet music?Yes, the available options depend on the project type. MusicXML projects have a Print button in the toolbar for a print-friendly view, plus a Download menu that offers the annotated MusicXML. PDF projects have a Download menu that offers an annotated PDF (and the merged MusicXML once the AI pipeline has produced one).What kind of PDF works best?Digitally exported PDFs (from notation software or publisher's digital editions) produce the best results. High-quality scanned sheet music also works well. Avoid uploading photos taken with a phone camera, as uneven lighting, skewed angles, and low resolution can reduce accuracy.
